Jean Tabbert, Tailored Label Product’s Sr. Accountant, celebrated 25 years of dedicated service with the company at the end of February 2009.

Jean’s career with TLP started out as volunteer work, literally. She donated her time and talents to a vision of success created by original owners, Marv Weiss and Todd Bence. Since then, Tailored (with leadership from current owners Bence and Mike Erwin) has evolved into a medium sized custom label manufacturing company with 64 employees and a positive outlook toward the future; an accomplishment only attainable with employees like Jean Tabbert.

Tailored Label is proud to have such a dedicated, loyal employee, who’s work ethic and integrity has set the example in TLP’s organization for so many years.

Jean, we sincerely thank you for your years of dedicated service to Tailored Label Products.

“You get some feisty, exuberant young kids who are excited about seeing the real business world. I would pay for Second Chance out of my own pocket if I had to,” …spoken directly from the heart of TLP’s President, Mike Erwin.

After a quote like this, there should be no question as to why Wisconsin named Tailored Label Products the 2008 Friends of Education Award winner…but just in case there is, read on!

2nd chance classroomFebruary 19, 2009
Tailored Label Products was awarded the 2008 William Pierce Award by the Menomonee Falls School District for their commitment to the Second Chance Program, a non-traditional learning and employment opportunity for at-risk students. It is another positive way for students to develop life skills. The students enroll for a two-year study. They rotate to four different manufacturers, working a six-hour day followed by two hours of classroom instruction. The employer agrees to pay the wage for an eight-hour day in addition to an annual fee to cover the cost of the program administration. TLP is currently mentoring it’s 3rd student.

Due to economic challenges facing the community, the 2nd Chance classroom provided by a local manufacturer was discontinued (a local plant closing)…so our team stepped up and helped design and make available a full time classroom for the 14 local participants and their instructor.

Menomonee Falls, WI—Elizabeth Burmaster, State Superintendent of Public Instruction will present a Business Friend of Education Award to state businesses who have participated in educational partnerships with local school districts. Mr. Mike Erwin, Tailored Label Products CEO, will accept the award for the Menomonee Falls based company. Tailored Label is actively involved in the program Second Chance Partners for Education. Through this program, they employ a rotation of high school students and provide a mentoring program so that these students are able to obtain their diploma in an alternate way.

Nominated by the Menomonee Falls High School for their creative business and education partnership with the District, Mike Erwin and Tailored Label have enhanced the educational experiences of students, and strengthened the Career and Technical Education program as a result of its involvement.

Mr. Erwin will be honored during a breakfast session taking place at the Wisconsin Association of Career and Technical Education (WACTE) Conference in Appleton, Wisconsin on February 26. Following the breakfast, the recipients of the award will be asked to be a part of a panel to discuss their experiences with business and education partnerships.
