Frequently Asked Questions

What are regulatory labels for?

Regulatory labels are primarily used to ensure consumer safety and that a given product was manufactured to meet industry standards.  Most regulatory labels are born out of what are called ANSI standards which are developed by a group of industry professionals from key sectors. This group meets under the MH-10 designation.  Examples of regulatory compliance standards and related enforcement agencies are; UL (Underwriters Laboratories), CSA (Canadian Standards Association), NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission), AGA ( American Gas Association), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), UDI (Unique Device Identification by the FDA for medical devices), IUID Item Unique Identification (Department of Defense to create permanent markings for military assets and tracking).  The label identifier ensures that both the product and, in many cases, the label have been tested under specific environmental and use conditions to ensure that the specific item meets industry standards for safety and durability.

If you are manufacturing a product for a given industry, for example consumer electronics, you should be researching the specific compliance standards in order to commercially manufacture and sell such products.  Your industry should have associations and key resources dedicated to supporting the manufacturers in educating them on industry requirements and markings.

TLP can create approved regulatory labels for a wide variety of products because our team utilizes a greater number of materials than our competitors. Continually, our engineering and manufacturing team ensures that the design, dimensions, colors, ink, and adhesives all comply with the strict industry standards for any product.

You need to ask and you need to demand evidence and documentation from your vendor.  This is a very high area of counterfeit activity and you need to protect yourself by asking the right questions.  If you are seeking a UL label from a given vendor you need to ask them to produce their UL files and registrations.  The liability is on you as the manufacturer to ensure that you are purchasing from complaint vendors.  Keep in mind that label suppliers spend an inordinate amount of time and money becoming compliant in given vertical markets.  If the label solution seems low priced compared to the competition and there are no specific questions for your UL documentation then it’s likely too good to be true.

UNDERSTANDING REGULATORY LABELING

CE Labels, CSA Labels, ANSI Labels, CARB Labels, Prop 65 Labels & UL Labeling

The UL label is the most widely recognized product warning label, but there are also a number of other regulated labels that our team manufactures. Each warning label communicates regulatory compliance with a specific set of label regulations and standards. By necessity, strict design parameters are laid out by each agency or organization in association with design, dimensions, and colors of their labels to establish legitimacy.

Our team specializes in other regulatory labels, including Proposition 65, CE, CSA, ANSI and CARB emissions labels, just to name a few.

PERSONAL COMMITMENT. POWERFUL RESULTS.
